This was the best he would get from Thor, Loki knew that. Thor was too interested in the heat of battle, and not nearly pragmatic enough to be convinced of a much more efficient plan. That, and there was no way he could find to get his brother out of the way on such short notice, not with Thor ensconced on the throne.
